Banjos can be really heavy! I can safely hang my 12-pound banjo on a wall as long as it is fastened to a stud. The wall has a resonator hanging about an inch away from it. If you want to make a banjole, you will need to cut a hole in the bottom of the resonators. You can do this by drilling a small hole about 1/2 inch in diameter and about 3/4 inch deep.
This hole will be used to attach the string to. I used a 1-1/8-inch drill bit to drill this hole. If you don’t have a drill press, use a hand drill. Drill the hole as deep as you can, but not so deep that you have to worry about damaging the wood. Be careful not to over-drill, or you may damage your wood! The hole should be large enough to allow you to slide a string through it.
It should also be big enough so that when you pull on it with your finger, it won’t slip out of your hand. Once you’ve drilled your hole, drill a second hole at the same depth. Make sure that the holes are not too close to each other, as this will make it difficult to get the strings through them.

Is it OK to hang a banjo by the neck?

Are wall hangers bad for guitars?

This is a good rule of thumb, but you may want to experiment a bit to find out what works best for you. It’s also important to keep in mind that the more humid the environment the longer it takes to achieve a desired level of humidification.
