Pipe is located in a hut east of Pronghorn Ranch, in the West Elizabeth region. You can get this errand from Dutch at your gang’s hideout in Chapter 2, Chapter 3, or Chapter 4 between the end of Chapter 1 and the beginning of the next chapter.
You can also use the Pipe to get to the other side of a cliff, which will allow you to climb up and over the cliff.
Pipe can be used to reach the top of this cliff without having to use a rope ladder, but it will take you a long time to do so, so you may want to save it for when you need it the most.
Once you have climbed up the pipe, you will be able to go back down the same way you came up. If you do not have a Pipe in your inventory, Dutch will give you one for free.

The abandoned town of Pleasance is just west of the region’s swamp areas. The book you’re looking for is on a desk. You can also find the book on a table in the library, but you’ll have to find it on your own. If you look at the books, you can see that they’re all written in a style similar to that of a children’s book.
You can’t read them, though, so you won’t be able to learn anything from them. However, if you pick one up and read it, it’ll give you a clue as to how to solve the puzzle. Once you’ve found the clue, head back to your house and talk to Rufus.
He’ll tell you that you need to go back into the swamp and find a way to get back out. To do this, he’ll need you to collect a certain number of coins from various places around the area.
